Tesla Energy VP to deliver remarks on the future of energy storage
Ben Hill, Vice President for Tesla Energy – Europe & Africa will deliver a keynote presentation in Dubai on the future of energy storage and how batteries can revolutionise the solar industry at Intersolar Middle East, on 20 September 2016.
The global market for energy storage is expected to grow to over US$25 billion in the next 10 years, and having already developed a fully automated battery for sustainable housing Tesla is one of a number of companies seeking to harnessing batteries in order to smooth the supply of grid-based and solar generated electricity during peak and off peak hours.
“Tesla has disrupted the energy industry in ways that many companies can only dream of, and it’s broken every conventional wisdom there is in the process,” said Nathan Waugh, Portfolio Director of dmg events, one of the organisers of Intersolar Middle East. “Now it’s taking that model from the streets through our homes and into our energy grids.”
“Having the ability to store enough power to run a home in a single battery could prove to be the missing link between large-scale energy infrastructure development and domestic consumption. Bridge this gap and there is the potential to accelerate the adoption of solar for an entire region, and set new global benchmarks for the future,” he added.
Tesla’s battery capabilities currently revolve around the ‘Powerwall’ battery, an automated battery that can charge using energy produced by solar panels, or through the grid when utility rates are low. The battery is billed as a safeguard against power outages and offers the ability to provide a backup electricity supply.
Power outages are uncommon in the Middle East, but the ability to store energy could be crucial as cities like Dubai aim to run millions of homes and offices using clean energy by 2030. Additionally, the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 contains a target to source 75 percent of energy from renewables.
“Few places in the world have the ability to contribute to the solar industry than Dubai and it is fascinating to see how government, industry and research institutions are embracing the possibilities of renewable energy across the city,” said Daniel Strowitzki, Chief Executive Officer, Freiburg Management Marketing International.
In addition to Tesla, Intersolar Middle East is gearing up to welcome Dubai Municipality, GE, First Solar, Huawei, Amana and Siel Middle East, as well as exhibitors from 21 countries. More than 4,000 visitors are expected to attend the three-day exhibition, which will host with the 2-day Intersolar Global Solar Leaders’ Summit on 19 September 2016.
Tesla’s presentation will be delivered at Intersolar Conference in new Za’abeel Hall 6 at Dubai World Trade Centre, on 20 September 2016.
Intersolar Middle East will be held in Dubai between19-21 September 2016.
