Abengoa Solar is undoubtedly one of the world leading CSP project developers/EPCs though it’s troubled with some financial problem recently. As for the South African CSP market, Abengoa is among the forerunners who developed and operated the first commercial CSP plants. As shown in the table below, the two projects in 1st round have both started production and the one in 3rd round is under construction and expected to start in 2017.

Prior news said Abengoa had been devoted in planning other big-scale CSP projects besides the three, however, there seems to be some uncertainties for the future influenced by the corporate financial trouble. Abengoa says it is currently developing a viability plan and in negotiations with its lenders with the purpose of reaching an agreement for a financial restructuring that is beneficial to all parties involved and ensures the continuity of the company in the mid and long term. Though it seems probable that the developer will have to sell assets in order to cut its massive debt, some sources say Abengoa will end up being rescued by itself and the government.
