Jinneng's 5 GW Solar Project in Shanxi Breaks Ground with Over RMB 16 Billion Investment

On March 27-28, the 5 GW photovoltaic power generation project in the Shanxi Jinbei coal mining subsidence area officially commenced construction in Zuoyun County, Yungang District, and Xinrong District of Datong City, Shanxi Province, marking the official launch of the new energy project in the region.

The groundbreaking includes three projects: the Zuoyun 1.6 GW PV power project, the Yungang 1.7 GW PV power project, and the Xinrong 1.7 GW PV power project.

The Zuoyun 1.6 GW PV project covers a total area of 64,900 mu (approximately 4,327 hectares) with a total investment of RMB 5.28 billion and is scheduled for completion and operation by the end of 2026.

The Yungang 1.7 GW PV project is located in Yungang Town, Gaoshan Town, Ya'erya Township, Kouquan Township, and Pingwang Township in Yungang District, Datong City. It has a total investment of RMB 5.61 billion and is expected to be completed and operational by March 2027.

The Xinrong 1.7 GW PV project covers 66,600 mu (approximately 4,440 hectares) with a total investment of RMB 5.61 billion.

According to reports, the Jinbei 5 GW PV project is invested and constructed by Jinneng Holding Jinbei Energy (Shanxi) Co., Ltd. Once completed, it is expected to supply 9.3 billion kWh of clean electricity annually to the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, saving 2.6564 million tons of standard coal per year, reducing 7.1896 million tons of CO₂ emissions annually, cutting 617.51 tons of SO₂ emissions per year, and facilitating the ecological restoration of approximately 200,000 mu (13,333 hectares) of coal mining subsidence land.
