According to Official Account @sjchuneng, on January 17th, at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week (ADSW), Masdar, the UAE's international renewable energy company, announced the preferred contractor and supplier for the world's first large-scale, “all-weather” photovoltaic (PV) energy storage gigawatt project.

CATL, as the preferred supplier of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), will provide 19GWh of energy storage systems, utilizing advanced TENER technology to ensure superior energy density and reliability.

Larsen & Toubro and POWERCHINA were selected as the preferred Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractors for the project, responsible for the engineering and delivery of the entire project.

Located in Abu Dhabi, the project is said to cover an area of 90 square kilometers, with a total investment of approximately $6 billion, and is expected to be operational by 2027. A 5.2GW (DC) solar photovoltaic (PV) plant will be constructed, together with a 19GWh (GWh) BESS (Battery Energy Storage System), which will allow renewable energy to be dispatched 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, making it the world's largest Combined Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) providing up to 1 gigawatt (GWh) per day of renewable energy-generated base load power.

In April, Taoke Energy and CATL signed a long-term purchase agreement for liquid-cooled energy storage batteries with a total capacity of 350MWh for the Japanese market.

In October, Spanish renewable energy developer Grenergy successfully signed a large-scale supply contract with CATL. Under the contract, CATL will supply 1.25GWh of EnerX battery energy storage systems, including more than 7,100 modules, for its Oasisde Atacama Phase IV project in Chile.
