According to PVmen, on January 5, the groundbreaking ceremony for the BC cell technological upgrade project of Pingmei Longi was held. This project involves upgrading seven existing production lines, adding auxiliary equipment such as a new power system, with a designed annual production capacity of 4.72 GW and a total investment of RMB 1.23 billion.
On November 7, Pingmei Longi had announced a tender for the energy-saving report of the BC cell technological upgrade project to advance the initiative.
According to the official website, Pingmei Longi's high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon cell project has a planned production capacity of 4 GW. It currently operates four production workshops with 27 production lines, achieving an annual capacity of 8 GW. Its main products include large-size high-efficiency cells such as M6 (166mm) and M10 (182mm).
Pingmei Longi New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. was established in July 2016 with a registered capital of RMB 900 million. It is a joint venture funded by Henan Yicheng New Energy Co., Ltd., under the China Pingmei Shenma Group, and Longi Leye Photovoltaic Technology Co., Ltd., under Longi Green Energy. Among them, China Pingmei Shenma Holding Group Co., Ltd. holds an 80.2% stake, while Longi Leye Photovoltaic Technology Co., Ltd. holds 19.8%.
In September 2023, Longi Green Energy announced during its semi-annual performance briefing that a large portion of its products would follow the BC technology route. Since then, Longi Green Energy has actively expanded its BC cell production capacity and continuously optimized and iterated the technology.
In October 2024, Longi Green Energy launched the Hi-MO X10, a distributed module product based on HPBC 2.0 cell technology, with a maximum mass-produced power output of 670W, offering significant performance improvements over first-generation BC products. The company plans to gradually upgrade HPBC 1.0 cell production capacity to HPBC 2.0, with some HPBC 1.0 production lines already converted.
According to Longi Green Energy’s plans, its domestic cell production capacity is expected to fully transition to BC cells by the end of 2026.
