On Nov. 21, Egypt signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with UAE-based Global South Utilities (GSO) and JA Solar to establish two solar plants.
The agreement will see the construction of two production plants, each with a capacity of 2GW, one dedicated to the manufacture of solar cells and the other to the production of solar modules.
It is expected to invest $138 million (about 999 million yuan) in the solar cell plant and $75 million (about 543 million yuan) in the solar module plant, which will mainly serve the local market, according to the report.
On the same day, the Egyptian Future Sustainable Development Authority (EFSDA) signed two landmark Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in cooperation with Masdar, the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company in the UAE.
One is a 5GW floating solar project at Lake Nasser; the other is a 2.8GW solar project at Nagaa Hammadi.
The floating solar power project on Lake Nasser will be implemented in two phases: 2GW in the first phase and 3GW in the second phase. the project is expected to be the world's largest floating solar power plant when it is completed and commissioned.
