Who buys photovoltaic equipment from DR Laser

On the evening of October 7, DR Laser disclosed an order of up to 1.229 billion yuan, which accounted for 76.36% of the company's audited main business income in 2023. DR Laser did not disclose the specific identity of its downstream customers, and only stated them in the announcement as “leading photovoltaic companies and entities under common control.”

It is knew that it should be an order from the photovoltaic giant LONGi.

On the evening of October 9, DRLaser also disclosed in the investor communication activity record, "The customer is a leading company in the industry (including related entities under its common control), and choose new laser technology for XBC (back contact) cell. The contract product is laser equipment and the total order value is 1.229 billion yuan.”

Currently, the photovoltaic giants of BC cells are mainly LONGi and Aiko Solar.

According to Longi’s investor relations activity record on September 30, it currently has 1.5GW of HPBC second-generation cell production capacity. According to existing plans, the company is expected to have 50GW of HPBC second-generation cell production capacity by the end of 2025.

In other words, Longi will need to build and transform 48.5GW of HPBC second-generation cell  production capacity next.

In terms of technical route, DR Laser said that this order belongs to the BC process. Compared with the previous BC technology, the new equipment is beneficial to improve the value of each GW.
