SEG Solar has begun construction on a 5 GW TOPCon vertically integrated project (from silicon ingots to modules to solar PV power plants) in Indonesia.

The construction started less than six months after the company announced the plan to build the factory in May 2024. The first phase will include the construction of 10 n-type cell production lines, with an annual nameplate capacity of 5 GW expected by the second quarter of 2025. The solar cells and modules produced by the factory will support the Indonesian government’s carbon reduction plans and supply SEG Solar’s module plant in Houston, U.S.

Nurul Ichwan, Deputy Minister for Investment Promotion, KITB President Ngurah Wirawan, and SEG General Counsel Michael Eden attended the groundbreaking ceremony and delivered important speeches. They were accompanied by more than 20 local government officials, including Batang Military Commander Letkol Inf Ahmad Alam Budiman, leaders from Greater Batang, and SEG Indonesia's core management team. Deputy Minister Nurul Ichwan emphasized, "The official commencement of SEG’s factory in Indonesia marks a significant step forward for Indonesia in leveraging foreign investment to promote the development of renewable energy and green industries. SEG’s investment in Indonesia will stimulate local economic growth and enhance Indonesia’s position in the global renewable energy industry supply chain. This industrial park is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs, providing employment opportunities and economic vitality for the local community."

SEG Solar, founded in 2016 and headquartered in Houston, Texas, is one of the top 10 solar module brands in the U.S. and among the first American companies to adopt n-type TOPCon modules. With a complete global supply chain, SEG offers high-quality solar modules dedicated to providing efficient, reliable, and stable products for its customers. By the end of 2023, SEG's global cumulative shipments exceeded 5 GW, and the company’s module capacity is expected to surpass 5.5 GW by the end of 2024.
