The U.S. Bureau of Land Management proposes 31 million acres of solar PV development in western states With the release of an updated Western Solar Plan, the Bureau of Land Management aims to increase permitting for solar PV projects on public lands. The plan builds on the original plan from 2012. It will also better reflect technological changes and meet the higher demand for solar development.

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management manages more than 245 million acres of public lands, primarily in 12 western states including Alaska. To date, the Bureau of Land Management has approved more than 25GW of clean energy projects, which could power approximately 12 million homes. This includes solar, wind and geothermal projects, as well as generator connections on public lands, which are critical to connecting clean energy generation projects on federal and non-federal lands to the grid.
