On January 22, 2024, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, returning from Ayodhya after consecrating the Ram temple, announced the first program he will hold: installing photovoltaic roofs on 10 million houses.

Nowadays, the Indian government plans to organize a PV model village in every district. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has now come out with detailed guidelines to achieve this goal. As per the rules, these PV demonstration villages will be implemented as part of the PM Surya Ghar program with a total financial support of around Rs. 80 crore.

MNRE said about Rs 100 crore will be spent on construction in each of the model villages to make them model areas for green energy.

The program is expected to promote various types of photovoltaic technologies such as rooftop photovoltaic systems, household photovoltaic lighting systems inside the house, photovoltaic water supply systems in villages, photovoltaic pumps for agricultural purposes, and installation of photovoltaic street lights covering village roads and public village infrastructure, and photovoltaic household appliances, among others.

According to the government, the scheme is expected to be implemented in large villages. "As per the latest published census statistics, the village for implementation of the scheme has to be a revenue village with a population size of more than 5,000. However, for special categories of districts like Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, etc., revenue villages with a population size of more than 2,000 would be eligible for PV model villages.

PM Surya Ghar draft plan once mentioned in the installation of photovoltaic modules used in the installation must be used in all domestic batteries and completed in the domestic production and installation, in order to be eligible for India's central financial subsidies. This series of strong subsidy measures can quickly promote the construction of the Indian PV industry chain, the Indian photovoltaic market in the future how to go from the attention of the people.
