Feedback from South African dealers: Household deposits dropped sharply, while industrial and commercial deposits increased

In addition to a large number of solar energy storage brands entering the South African market, many large and small solar installers have also emerged in South Africa - many of which are converted from building contractors, air conditioning installers, and plumbers.

According to feedback from South Africa's Solar Advice, the company's sales have been reduced by half since the end of 2023. On the one hand, the easing of power outages has led to a decline in demand, and on the other hand, more and more installers have joined the market.

According to feedback from South Africa's AWPower, the company's household solar storage demand has fallen by 50% since September 2023. And since the power outages disappeared in April 2024, sales have only been 20% of the same period last year. Demand from industrial and commercial customers has picked up again since June 2024.

Meanwhile, according to the South African Consumer Goods and Services Ombudsman, complaints about companies providing solar systems and generators surged by 50% in 2023.

The most common reasons for complaints include installers failing to have electrician qualifications, poor workmanship and installation, non-compliance with warranties, no after-sales service, and misleading advertising of components, inverters and batteries.

According to feedback from the South African Fire Department, about one in six fires in 2023 were related to poor quality solar panel installations.

An explosive market will go through a period of mixed fish and dragons before it matures.

Localized service capabilities and management training for installers will be the top priority for gaining market competitive advantages.

Combined with market conditions, the main reasons for the start of industrial and commercial volume are:

1.Industrial and commercial energy storage products are gradually maturing, and prices have dropped significantly since last year

2.The market's awareness and acceptance of photovoltaic energy storage is already very high

3.The high electricity price expectations in the South African market have prompted companies to invest in photovoltaic energy storage systems

The subsequent market trend mainly depends on the electricity price situation in South Africa and the reform of the electricity market.
