Hon Hai, also known as Foxconn, has announced a massive investment in renewable energy at its Wisconsin plant. On March 9th, the company declared that it has invested over $1 billion in the plant and will employ over 1,000 workers locally. The announcement came as Hon Hai unveiled plans to expand the use of solar power in its manufacturing process.
As part of this initiative, Hon Hai has partnered with We Energies, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, a local enterprise in Wisconsin. The two companies have signed a megawatt-scale solar power generation project that will see We Energies install about 2,000 solar panels in Hon Hai's Wisconsin plant. The project is expected to generate over 1.5 million kWh of electricity annually, which will be used to meet the energy needs of the park's development and operations.
Hon Hai stated that the Wisconsin plant produces servers and motherboards for global customers, and as local business grows, the company will expand the use of renewable energy sources during the manufacturing process. Hon Hai and We Energies plan to submit a solar power generation equipment installation plan to local authorities for approval this spring.
The solar power generation project uses single-axis fixed tracking and tilting panel equipment to increase the production capacity of renewable energy. Hon Hai pointed out that it is expected to offset over 1,200 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, equivalent to reducing the carbon emissions of 260 cars or planting 20,000 trees.
Furthermore, Hon Hai revealed that the 30-year lifecycle of the solar power generation system is expected to reduce over 33,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to the carbon emissions of 7,200 cars or planting 560,000 trees on Earth. This move towards renewable energy is an important step for Hon Hai as it continues to explore ways to reduce its carbon footprint and promote sustainable development.
Overall, the partnership between Hon Hai and We Energies will play a significant role in promoting renewable energy in Wisconsin and beyond. The solar power generation project will not only provide clean energy for Hon Hai's manufacturing process but also contribute to a more sustainable future for the environment.
