Energy storage supplier Fluence announced it would be joining hands with Taiwanese power conversion and energy storage company Rich Electric in engaging in TPC’s AFC auxiliary service by co-developing the first 100MW battery energy storage system in Taiwan, which is scheduled for completion in Hualien during 2023, and serves as one of the current largest energy storage AFC projects of Fluence in Taiwan.
Jan Teichmann, Asia-Pacific President of Fluence, commented, “ Taiwan has become one of the most active energy storage markets in the Asia Pacific region. The growth momentum of the energy ecosystem is driven by a clear target and objectives for renewable energy and net zero emission set by the local government. Through this partnership with Rich Electric, we look forward to building a more resilient smart grid in Taiwan and accelerating the local energy transition.”
Due to the intermittent property of renewable energy, Taiwan is currently deploying energy storage systems in order to fulfill flexible power dispatching that would avoid power outages. TPC has announced to establish 1000MW of energy systems before 2025, while the MOEA has also planned for 500MW of integrated target between PV and energy storage.
Chen Chun-rong, Chairman of Rich Electric, commented that the establishment of energy storage systems is an indispensable segment for Taiwan when connecting renewable energy to the grid. Rich Electric has 35 years of experience in R&D and manufacturing of power electronics, and focuses on the development and integration of PCS, BMS, and EMS, as well as designs grid-level energy storage and distribution solutions, assisting with stable power supply for the industry.
Fluence was awarded with the 60MW energy storage system tender for TPC’s Longtan UHV substation in Taoyuan, with an investment sum of more than NT$2.6 billion that equals the largest official energy storage site in Taiwan right now. The capacity of the system after establishment will account for 37.5% of TPC’s in-house energy storage, and serves a critical role in providing stable power in Taiwan. Fluence has established, signed, managed, and maintained more than 4.8GW of energy storage systems as of now.
