Mahmoud Kamai, head of Iran’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization (SATBA), said that the Iranian government and its central bank are working on a tender for 4,000MW of renewable energy projects. Tender could be initiated as early as the start of the next Iranian calendar year that begins on March 21, 2022. This story was first reported by the Tehran Times on March 14.
Looking further ahead, the Iranian government plans to install 10,000MW of renewable generation capacity over the next four years. Of that amount, 500MW is set to activate in the summer of this year, when the country’s electric power system is in its peak demand season.
Farsi News Agency also reported on March 14 that the Iranian Energy Ministry has launched a program to deploy 550,000 rooftop PV systems. The program is expected to raise the country’s renewable generation capacity by 2.75GW.
Earlier in January, Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian said that the government intends to allocate IRR 30 trillion (USD 115.3 million) for the development of the renewable energy industry in the next Iranian calendar year. Around that time, the Energy Ministry also signed MoUs with private contractors for cooperation in the development of 10,000MW of renewable energy projects. The Energy Ministry touted that it has received requests from private companies for setting up a total of 95,000MW of renewable energy projects.
