Chinese silicon wafer supplier Zhonghuan Semiconductor released its latest prices for PV wafers on March 4. The quote for wafers that are 182mm in diameter and 160μm in thickness came to RMB 6.65 per piece at the time of the announcement, showing a hike of RMB 0.25 from January 26. The quote for wafers that are 210mm in diameter and 160μm in thickness arrived at RMB 8.85 per piece at the time of the announcement, up by RMB 0.30.
News outlets that cover the PV industry have reported that prices across the supply chain have returned to the uptrend since the start of this year, and polysilicon prices have undergone multiple rounds of hikes. According to the data from industry association China Silicon, the average transaction price of the composite feeding material for single-crystal growth climbed above RMB 240,000 per metric ton in the second week of March. The average transaction price of the mono-Si dense material also rose above RMB 240,000 per metric ton in the same week. With the price upswing in the upstream of the supply chain, the major Chinese wafer suppliers such as Zhonghuan and LONGi have been compelled to adjust their quotes as well.
Based on the available data, Zhonghuan’s 182mm and 210mm wafers that are 160μm in thickness experienced an increase in the range of mid-teens from the end of last year to the early March.
