MingYang Smart Energy to Establish Factories in the UK for Turbine Blade Production and Cabin Assembly

Chinese wind turbine manufacturer MingYang Smart Energy will be establishing factories in the UK, which helps the country in adding 40GW of installed capacity in offshore wind power by 2030.

The statement of MingYang Smart Energy pointed out that the company has signed a MOU with the representative of the UK Department for International Trade in China, and will be establishing wind turbine blade factories and service centers in the country, with possibly another cabin assembly plant at the same time.

As pointed out by BloombergNEF, the global installed capacity of offshore wind power will increase more than tenfold in the next 15 years, and the UK is expected to become the second largest offshore wind power market in the world after China during 2035.

MingYang Smart Energy is the fourth largest wind turbine manufacturer in China, and believes that an investment in the offshore wind power market of Europe serves as an excellent opportunity in overseas expansion. It had previously sold 10 units of its 3MW wind turbines to the Italian developer Renexia SpA. MingYang Smart Energy has recently started to participate in the “Largest Wind Turbine Competition in the World” by releasing the MySE 16.0-242 that measures at 16MW each unit and stands taller than the Haliade-X of GE. The commercial production of the wind turbine is expected to initiate starting from 2024.

Upsizing has become a tendency within the offshore wind turbine industry, and various suppliers are successively releasing large-sized wind turbines, such as the 14MW (which can be added to 15MW) SG 14-222 DD of Siemens Gamesa, as well as the 13MW Haliade-X of GE.
