Taiwan-based PV cell manufacturer, Gintech Energy, has signed a supply agreement with China Ecotek Corporation (CEC), a subsidiary of China Steel Corp. (CSC), on the very last working day of 2016, to provide 30MW of high-efficiency mono-si PERC modules. The modules will be used for rooftop PV projects.
CSC announced to develop solar systems atop of self-owned building and warehouse rooftops in mid-2016, and CEC is the special-purpose company established for managing the development. CEC aims to install 80MW of rooftop PV systems in three years as the first phase of the development.
Gintech Energy and CEC’s agreement, which was inked on December 30, 2016, at CEC’s headquarter located in Taipei, Taiwan, is the unpreceded case for Taiwan’s large solar systems in 2017. This cooperation has also demonstrated the win-win example of the solar market in Taiwan.

CSC requires so-called “MIT” solar products for its rooftop projects – solar cells that are made in Taiwan and modules that are assembled domestically – to indicate its support to Taiwan government’s renewable energy goals and to create jobs in Taiwan. Such a spirit shares the same value with Gintech Energy.
Under terms of the agreement, Gintech Energy will supply mono-si PERC modules with power output of 290~295W to CEC. The module selection will help CEC to fulfill Taiwan’s “high efficiency module” requirement so that CEC will enjoy a 6% premium on the feed-in tariff (FIT) scheme. Furthermore, the high-efficiency modules will save installation spaces, material and labor costs.
Gintech Energy’s modules are granted by wind-resistance proof of 5400Pa (level 17 wind speed) on both frond and back sides. Such a feature is one of the reason why CSC chose to cooperate with Gintech because Taiwan suffers from frequent typhoons.
