CIS thin-film solar panel solution provider Solar Frontier Americas broke ground on two utility-scale solar projects in Imperial County, California, the 67MWp Midway I project and the 40MWp Midway II project.

Solar Frontier Americas Development, the utility-scale project development division of Solar Frontier Americas, is managing both projects to ensure them are successfully executed on schedule. EPC services is providing by Blattner Energy, while Power Electronics will supply inverters for the projects.

Charles Pimentel, CEO of Solar Frontier Americas Development, said, “Solar Frontier has developed an extensive U.S. project development pipeline of over 400MW and has rapidly established itself as a reliable and bankable player in the solar development industry. We are pleased to now start construction of Midway I and Midway II, two solar power plants that will deliver economical, clean and renewable energy.”

Solar Frontier’s CIS panels will be mounted on NEXTracker’s NX Horizon™ single-axis trackers, which will help increase energy yields.

Midway I has an executed power purchase agreement with Pacific Gas & Electric, while Midway II has an agreement with the Imperial Irrigation District. Both projects will save electricity bills and property taxes for Imperial County as well as contribute to the local ecomony.
