Duke Energy, the North Carolina-based utility and clean energy provider, has been chosen to power Disney-inspired solar park located near to the famous Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, U.S. The 5MW facility was officially opened on April 12th, and now connected represents the same power output as 1,000 standard rooftop solar arrays, Duke Energy said.
The array is located near to Epcot on 22 acres of land, directly opposite Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resort at Walt Disney World Resort, Florida.
Constructed in partnership with Disney and Randy Creek Improvement District (RCID), the solar farm will now supply clean energy to the amusement park via a power purchase agreement (PPA) with RCID. Other customers – such as the nearby Four Seasons Resort and Hotel Plaza Boulevard – will also benefit from the installation.
"As a company that cares about the environment, we continually take steps of varying sizes to benefit the environment and protect the planet," enthused Walt Disney World Resort environmental integration director Angie Renner at the opening ceremony. "This new solar facility will help us in our efforts to conserve natural resources."
