EDF Renewable Energy to Purchase Power from 110MW Solar Project

published: 2016-04-07 18:13

EDF Renewable Energy (EDF RE) announces the signing of a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement with Southern California Edison (SCE). The 111.2MWac Valentine Solar Project will deliver clean electricity to SCE beginning in December 2019.

Located on approximately 1,260 acres of private land in Kern County’s Mojave Desert, Valentine Solar is adjacent to EDF RE’s Catalina Solar 2 Project, which is also contracted with SCE. Valentine will be comprised of horizontal single-axis tracking solar PV technology generating power equivalent to avoiding more than 225,000 metric tons of CO₂ emissions annually. This is equivalent to the emissions of 48,000 passenger vehicles driven over the course of one year.

“EDF Renewable Energy is pleased to once again partner with Southern California Edison to bring affordable solar energy to SCE’s customers, through the Valentine Solar Project,” commented Dai Owen, Director, Power Marketing. “As solar energy becomes increasingly cost-competitive against other forms of generation, we continue to expand our solar portfolio to meet the growing appetite of our utility partners and corporate clients for clean, renewable energy.”

EDF Renewable Energy is one of the largest renewable energy developers in North America with 7.8GW of wind, solar, biomass, and biogas projects developed throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
