Sonnedix Group’s subsidiary, Oriana Energy LLC, is partnering with Yarotek to construct a 45MWac solar power plant in Isabela, Puerto Rico. Once completed, the solar power plant will be the largest of its kind in the Caribbean.
The partnership invested over US$160 million in constructing the renewable energy power plant and hired more than 300 employees from nearby communities. The expected annual power generation, which would be 100,000MWh, is equivalent to the electricity needs of more than 12,000 homes. The construction began in early March while the grind connection is scheduled in August of this year.
Greece-based company METKA-EGN, who has a solid track record of building solar plants in Europe and the UK and received Notice to Proceed December 16, 2015, will build, commission and operate the facilities in Isabela.
The construction is supported by Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority (PREPA) as well as the government. Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla, PREPA Executive Director Javier Quintana and Isabela Mayor Carlos Delgado Altieri attended the ceremony, reinforcing their support to this project, which strengthens the renewable energy portfolio of the Island and helps improve the quality of life of its residents.
“This sustainable energy project represents the vision we have for future developments in our municipality,” said said Delgado Altieri. “My interest is to continue promoting Isabela to attract investment and generate jobs that result in a better quality of life. We are grateful to Oriana Energy and Sonnedix for proposing to us a project of innovation, particularly keeping in mind environmental conservation.”
