Ford to Invest $4.5 Billion in Electrified Vehicle Solutions by 2020

Ford announced to invest an additional US$4.5 billion in expanding its production capacity of electrified vehicle solutions by 2020. The investment is also art of the company’s target to change how it develops vehicle experiences for customers – all to make people’s lives better by changing the way the world moves.

Ford is adding 13 new electrified vehicles to its portfolio by 2020, when more than 40% of the company’s global nameplates will come in electrified versions. This represents Ford’s largest-ever electrified vehicle investment in a five-year period.

Although the sale of EVs and plug-in hybrid cars in USA has dropped due to lower oil prices in the recent, Ford believes that EVs is becoming more attractive to customers than it was before. “It is necessary for vehicle manufacturers to spread the benefit of electrified vehicle solutions to our customers,” commented Mark Fields, CEO of Ford.

On the way next year is a new Focus Electric, which features all-new DC fast-charge capability delivering an 80% charge in an estimated 30 minutes and projected 100-mile range – an estimated two hours faster than today’s Focus Electric. The new Focus Electric will start production late next year and will be available in North America and Europe.
