SkyPower Announces Gigawatts of Solar-related Plans in Three Nations

SkyPower, a utility-scale solar PV project developer, has announced gigawatts of solar PV projects in three countries. The company targets to develop up to 2.35GW of solar projects in Bangladesh, Djibouti, and the Indian State of Madhya Pradesh.

Bangladesh

During the 70th United Nations General Assembly in New York, SkyPower and Prime Minister Hasina unveiled their plans to develop 2GW of utility-scale solar energy over the next five years in Bangladesh, representing an investment of US $4.3 billion. The investment will create more than 42,000 jobs in Bangladesh while the plans include 500MW of fabrication and assembly facilities.

Furthermore, SkyPower will be gifting 1.5 million SkyPower Home solar kits which consist of solar panel, battery, LED lights, fan, radio, and USB port to people of Bangladesh over the course of the next five years.

Republic of Djibouti

SkyPower signed an agreement to build 200MW of solar projects in four phases in the Republic of Djibouti, Africa. The agreement was signed as SkyPower regards Africa as a global hub for the growth of renewable energy where has plenty of solar resources.

The 200MW solar project represents an estimated investment of US $440 million which also includes corporate social responsibility investments of US $11 million toward education, training, research and development in Djibouti.

SkyPower President and Chief Executive Officer Kerry Adler, said "Through this agreement, SkyPower will work hand in hand with the Republic of Djibouti to support the development of the country's renewable energy industry and achieve the goal of developing a stronger economy and opportunities for the citizens of Djibouti."

State of Madhya Pradesh, India

The Government of Madhya Pradesh has signed a long-term power purchase agreement with SkyPower to purchase solar power from SkyPower’s 150MWac utility-scale solar facility for the state.

"Renewable energy is a big focus for the State of Madhya Pradesh and signing this power purchase agreement with SkyPower highlights our commitment," said Mr. Sanjay Kumar Shukla, IAS, Managing Director, M.P. Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL).
