Sempra U.S. Gas & Power was recently received the "Power Player of the Year" award from Clean Energy Project (CEP) at the National Clean Energy Summit (NCES) 8.0 in Las Vegas. The recognition is based on the company's continuing commitment to renewable energy development. Along with its affiliates and partners, Sempra U.S. Gas & Power now has approximately 2,000MW of solar and wind generation in operation, while another 422MW are scheduled to come online by 2016.
Each year, the NCES hosts influential industry leaders and policymakers from across the country to discuss clean energy development. CEP, a non-profit organization dedicated to powering the "clean energy economy," co-sponsored the event.
"We are honored to be recognized by Clean Energy Project for our commitment to renewable energy development," said Patti Wagner, president and CEO of Sempra U.S. Gas & Power. "The award highlights just how much can be accomplished when our team at Sempra U.S. Gas & Power along with our renewables project partners work together with state and local leadership across the country to grow power generation from wind and solar resources."
At the NCES Kevin Sagara, president of renewables for Sempra U.S. Gas & Power, accepted the award on behalf of the company.
"Sempra U.S. Gas & Power has provided vision and created opportunities in clean energy development, and demonstrated the direct and secondary benefits of developing the West's, and the nation's, renewable resources," said Jennifer Taylor, the executive director of CEP. "CEP's board of directors' decision to select Sempra U.S. Gas & Power was cemented by the fact that the company got its solar start and initiated its vision for solar right here in Nevada."
Sempra U.S. Gas & Power has participated in NCES since the energy summit's inception in 2008. That same year, the company completed construction on its first photovoltaic solar project in Boulder City, Nev.
