The officials announced that the world’s largest PV facility, Topaz Solar farm, located in Eastern San Luis Obispo County, California officially went into operation. The 550MW solar farm located in California Valley reached its full operational status sometime last month, and the final installations are expected to be completed sometime in early 2015. Once fully completed, the power generated is sold to Pacific Gas and Electric Co. under long-term contract and could power up to 160,000 homes.

In fact, there were 14 utility-scale solar plants totaling 294MW went into operation in the U.S. in November, 2014, according to the latest Energy Infrastructure update by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). These represent nearly one third of the 873MW of new electricity generation commissioned during the month and brings the total installed utility-scale PV capacity to 10.24GW respectively 0.88% of the overall electricity generation in the U.S. Meanwhile, 2.2GW has been installed during the first eleven months of 2014 compared to 3.1GW in the first 11 month of 2013.
