Customized Energy Solutions (CES) has signed a multi-year agreement with Renewable Energy Systems Americas (RES Americas) to provide operations and dispatch support in optimizing their energy storage projects in the United States and Canada. This partnership will enable RES Americas to continue to expand its base of energy storage devices throughout North America.
Renewable Energy Systems Canada Inc. (RES Canada), a division of RES Americas and provider of the development and construction of wind, solar, transmission, and energy storage projects in North America, announced final certification of the company's second energy storage system, Amphora.
RES Canada conceived, developed, and constructed the energy storage system, which it will own and operate. Located in Central Strathroy, west of London, Ontario, the system is comprised of a +/-4 MW (8MW total range)/ 2.6MWh lithium battery that will provide a service called "frequency regulation" to Ontario's grid operator, the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). Amphora will operate under a three year agreement with the IESO and the facility has a lifespan of more than 10 years.
“CES has appreciated working with RES Americas from the initial phase of evaluation of new markets through the use of our Competitive Market Evaluation Tools for Storage, ‘CoMETS’,” stated Judith Judson-McQueeney, CES Director of Emerging Technologies.
“This is a critical juncture in the integration of battery storage into the market, transitioning from pilots to grid scale commercially viable projects,” said Erik Paulson, CES Vice President of Generation Services. “We appreciate RES’ visionary leadership in the energy industry, and we are honored to have RES Americas select our 24-hour market operations center to help them optimize their energy storage system.”
