IKEA plans to open the Miami-Dade store in Sweetwater, Florida on August 27, 2014. Following the furniture company’s commitment to create a greener business model, the new open is also equipped with solar arrays.
The 416,000 square-foot future IKEA Miami will reflect the same unique architectural design, as well as significant sustainable building practices, including the installation of South Florida’s largest rooftop solar array, consistent with the company’s 90% solar presence atop its U.S. locations. It will feature exclusive and inclusive items and certain IKEA-idea areas like every branch around the world.
In addition to more than 500 jobs created from construction, approximately 350 coworkers will have joined the IKEA family by when the new store opens. “Construction work has advanced far enough to allow the interior build-up process and finishing details to be complete by August 27,” noted Selwyn Crittendon, store manager of the future IKEA Miami. “Now our primary goal is the final training of the more-than-350 local hires joining the IKEA coworker family.”
