Arizona Office of Tourism Unveils State’s First Electric Vehicle Visitor’s Guide

published: 2014-05-21 14:38

The Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT) launches the state’s first Electric Vehicle Travel Guide. As ownership of fully electric vehicles (EV) gains speed and the infrastructure to support EVs continues to grow throughout the state, Arizona is poised to be a destination for EV drivers looking to travel with zero tailpipe emissions.

AOT’s Electric Vehicle Travel Guide is tailored specifically for all-electric vehicle travelers and filled with valuable, downloadable travel information. The guide provides multiple suggested itineraries that combine statewide destinations with available charging locations and includes an Arizona state map, emergency contact information, weather averages, and elevation charts to help EV drivers plan their Arizona road-trip adventures. The guide also includes a list of hotels that make charging available to overnight guests.

“We are thrilled to be offering such a valuable resource to this growing market,” said Sherry Henry, AOT director. “We want to take the guess work out of traveling Arizona with an EV and show EV drivers how they can enjoy our great state.”

The first travel itinerary highlights a Los Angeles to Northern Arizona route that features Route 66, Grand Canyon National Park, Sedona, Scottsdale and Phoenix. The second itinerary promotes Phoenix to Southern Arizona and features stops in Tucson, Tombstone, Bisbee and Sierra Vista. AOT plans to continue adding itineraries as more charging stations become available. The itineraries are designed to accommodate the needs of today’s all-electric vehicles including the Tesla Model S and Nissan LEAF.
