Apollo Towers Myanmar has selected Flexenclosure to supply its eSite hybrid power solutions for telecommunication sites all across Myanmar. The multi-million dollar deal is the largest ever for eSite and signals a strategic breakthrough for Flexenclosure into the fast growing South East Asian market.
According to the recently signed agreement, Flexenclosure will immediately commence a large-scale rollout of multi-tenant turnkey eSites across Myanmar, with additional deployments anticipated through 2015 and beyond. Construction of the eSites has started in Vara, Sweden. The contract includes all equipment, delivery, installation, commissioning and on-going services.
“This is by far our largest eSite order to date,” said David King, CEO, Flexenclosure. “The fact that we have been chosen as a main supplier of power solutions in such a huge green-field rollout not only validates Flexenclosure’s status as a leader in the hybrid power solutions market, but also confirms eSite as the system of choice for multi-tenant scenarios.”
eSite is a portfolio of energy-efficient hybrid power systems for base station sites in areas where grid power is unreliable or unavailable. Powered by renewable energy sources or the grid and a backup genset, eSite can deliver a 90 per cent reduction in diesel fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and energy related costs compared to traditional diesel based systems.
For the deployment in Myanmar, eSite was chosen for a number of key factors – its ease and speed of deployment; it’s adaptability as a single solution that can be deployed at any site type; and for its ability to manage all energy sources through a single controller. eSite will be deployed in various configurations, each specifically designed to manage sites with either good, bad, or no grid availability. Configurations will also include solar power in suitable locations.

Apollo Towers has been selected by Telenor Myanmar to build and manage telecom towers in preparation for Telenor’s massive mobile network rollout across the country. Recently Telenor successfully secured a cellular licence in Myanmar, having been selected from 91 interested companies, making it the world’s toughest licence competition.
Mobile penetration in Myanmar is still only around 10%, the third least penetrated mobile market in the world. The Myanmar government has set a mobile phone penetration target of 75-80% by March 2016, which would see the market expanding to close to 40 million connections.
