Upsolar, a leading international provider of solar PV modules, has announced the completion of Sicily’s largest PV system integrating Schweizer Solrif® frames. Completed in partnership with local engineering, procurement and construction firm Ferplant Srl, a subsidiary of mondoPower Srl, the 1 MW project will generate electricity for agricultural facilities in Portopalo di Capopassero, Sicily.
The project is comprised of four rooftop arrays featuring UP-S190M monocrystalline Upsolar modules with Solrif frames. Solrif mounting is a building integrated PV (BIPV) solution featuring sections that interlock horizontally to simplify system installation and maintenance through individual module removal and replacement.
Solrif-framed Upsolar modules are certified by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and can be easily integrated into Italy’s varying infrastructure. Installations featuring these modules are recognized by Gestore Servizi Elettrici as an innovative integrated system and qualify for the highest feed-in tariff rates under both the fourth and fifth Conto Energia.
"The combination of Upsolar’s top quality modules and Solrif’s innovative design enabled us to streamline an otherwise complex set of rooftop PV systems and complete our installation in record time,” said Emanuele Buscaglione, CEO of mondoPower Srl. “Additionally, the product qualifies the systems for the strongest available government incentives, further accelerating the return on investment.”
Upsolar was one of the first module providers to integrate the Solrif frame, offering the product since 2010.
"The Italian market is one of the most promising regions for renewable energy growth across Europe, and the success of our Solrif-framed modules in the country speaks volumes to the product’s system-enhancing capabilities,” said Anne Torricelli, Senior Europe Sales Manager at Upsolar. “Coupled with our 25-year Reinforced Module Warranty and PowerCLIP coverage through PowerGuard Specialty Insurance Services, Upsolar’s strong partnerships and unparalleled reliability allows installers and end-users to take full advantage of Italy’s solar potential.”
