Company Allows Local Businesses and Homeowners to Install Solar for Free and Pay Less for Solar Electricity than Utility Power

SolarCity, a national leader in clean energy services, has opened an expanded operations center in Albany that will bring new jobs and better energy options to New York businesses, non-profit organizations and homeowners. SolarCity can currently offer many New Yorkers the ability to install solar energy for free and to pay less for solar electricity than they currently pay for utility power.

Albany Mayor Gerald D. Jennings was among the attendees at the Operations Center’s grand opening.

SolarCity has quadrupled its New York workforce, from 10 to 46 employees, since October 2011, and is now hiring for 34 positions across the state, including eight in Albany. Available jobs include electricians, installers, managers and auditors. Candidates interested in available employment positions in New York can contact SolarCity via its online jobs form at www.solarcity.com/jobs. New York homeowners and businesses interested in any of SolarCity’s services can contact the company directly at 1-888-SOL-CITY (1-888-765-2489) or visit SolarCity online at www.solarcity.com/request.

“The people of the City of Albany want cleaner, more affordable energy, and by going solar with SolarCity,  they can do both while supporting local jobs,” said Mayor Gerald D. Jennings. “Renewable energy is a critical component both in the development of our current economy, and our nation’s future economy, and I look forward to the positive impact that this organization will have on our Capital Region.”

“An expanded operations center and a growing local workforce will help us provide better energy to New York,” said SolarCity Northeastern Regional Vice President Ed Steins. “Going solar can save New Yorkers significant money on what they’re currently paying for utility power--and it’s easier to go solar now than ever before.”

On July 23 SolarCity received notification from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) that the company is now a NYSERDA-approved “Full” Affiliated Contractor.  In June Solar City was accredited by the Building Performance Institute (BPI), and became a NYSERDA affiliated contractor of the Home Performance with Energy Star program. SolarCity offers a range of energy efficiency (EE) services in New York, including air sealing and improved insulation.
