Asia’s largest solar park in the Indian state of Gujarat was officially connected to the grid on April 19, 2012 in the presence of the Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendi Modi. Among the technical partners of the project is SolarWorld AG who participated in the project by supplying high quality solar power modules with a total output of 10.6 megawatts. The project will also be a topic to be discussed at the meeting of the SolarWorld AG Chairman and CEO Frank Asbeck with the Indian Consul General Taranjit Singh Sandhu on April 20, 2012 in Bonn.
“India is one of the markets of the future for photovoltaic technology worldwide,“ Asbeck says. ”Already today, solar power plants are a genuine alternative to fossil fuels in the region and they are being strongly supported by deliberate political funding in individual Indian states.” In addition, the demand for roof-mounted plants for commercially used surfaces and private households is increasing noticeably. Already last year, SolarWorld AG started building up a network of specialist partners and training installers in order to further promote the supply of complete roof-top plants in India.
The Gujarat solar park has a total end capacity of 600 megawatts. In the part of the project for which SolarWorld AG supplied the modules, the company cooperated with its partner NKG Infrastructure Ltd. The free-field sites are located in the community of Charanka in the Patan District in the Northwest of India. A total of 46,000 SolarWorld modules were installed there that supply more than 30,000 people every year with clean energy from the sun. The state of Gujarat is among the most sun-pampered regions in the Indian subcontinent.
