SolarCity®, a national leader in clean energy services, is expanding to Connecticut to make it possible for many homeowners and businesses to install solar panels for free and pay less for solar electricity than they pay for utility power. SolarCity is expanding to Connecticut in large part due to the efforts of the state—through programs at Connecticut Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority (CEFIA) and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) to promote, develop and invest in clean energy and energy efficiency projects.
“Why pay a premium for power generated by fossil fuels when you can pay less for cleaner energy?” said Ed Steins, SolarCity’s regional director in the Northeastern U.S. “Connecticut residents pay some of the highest electricity rates in the nation. We can give them the option to reduce those bills and do something positive for the environment at the same time.”
SolarCity gives customers the option to purchase their systems and installation, or to have the panels installed for free and pay only for the solar electricity they produce. The company expects to be able to allow many Connecticut homeowners and businesses to save thousands of dollars on electricity costs by bringing back a popular model the state itself offered until its program became oversubscribed in 2009. SolarCity will also perform comprehensive energy efficiency evaluations to provide recommendations for further opportunities for cost savings and to improve indoor air quality and comfort.
SolarCity is a one-stop-shop for a range of clean energy services that would otherwise be provided by multiple companies, and can tailor service options for each customer’s situation. SolarCity provides solar design, installation, financing, insurance and performance guarantees, energy efficiency evaluations and upgrades, SolarGuard® and PowerGuide™ energy monitoring services and electric vehicle charging installation. SolarCity services will initially be available to Connecticut homeowners who are customers of Connecticut Power & Light (CL&P) and United Illuminating (UI), beginning later this month.
Connecticuthomeowners interested in SolarCity’s services can contact the company directly at 1-888-SOL-CITY (1-888-765-2489) for a free, no-obligation solar consultation or visit SolarCity online at www.solarcity.com/request. SolarCity representatives will also be available to answer questions Feb 23-26 in Booth 519 at the Hartford Flower & Garden Show at the Connecticut Convention Center. SolarCity signed a lease for an office in the Hartford area this week, and has begun hiring locally.
