Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced it began providing location information of Nissan LEAF in a tourism campaign for Japanese professional baseball spring training camp in 2012, "Camploo - okinawa! Campaign 2012", organized by JTB Okinawa.
With an ICT (Information and Communication Technology) system designed specifically for EV, Nissan LEAF owners are connected 24-7 to the services being provided by the NISSAN CARWINGS Data Center an information control center, and the onboard Telematics Communication Unit (TCU). With the tour participants' agreement, the vehicle location information is obtained through a constant connection between the vehicle and NISSAN CARWINGS DATA CENTER. This information is provided to NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc. and then Nissan LEAF rental car*1 drivers receive information via a dedicated tablet PC about local information surrounding the route they are driving. This includes discount information from FamilyMart etc. or games related to other services that makes driving more fun.
Also with the special tablet PC, rental car customers can use remote-control functions of Nissan LEAF such as remote climate control and battery status functionalities that currently is provided only to owners.
Nissan will continuously work with various partner companies ranging from tourism, game to entertainment industries for enhanced service for Nissan LEAF users, using remote control functions with smartphones as well as the current location information*2and driving history gained by constant communication between Nissan LEAF and the NISSAN CARWINGS Data Center.
