According to Kyodo News, the management of Sony says that Sony Corporation will negotiate and cooperate with some giant automakers and be expected to start producing lithium-ion battery around 2015 because of the increasing demand of lithium-ion battery for EVs.
The new factory to produce the electrode of lithium-ion battery has been established in Fukushima. One of executive directors in Sony cooperation confirms that Sony is also considering building battery plant abroad with the expanding battery market. He also adds, Sony is also planning to develop the batteries for HEV and PHEV.
It is said that lithium-ion batteries Sony is developing have the features of longer cycle life and higher efficiency for charge & recharge.
