Vestas has received an order of 50 MW from China Datang Corporation Renewable Power. The order consists of 25 units of the V90-2.0 MW wind turbine, and will be installed near the city of Hulunbeier in the north eastern part of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (IMAR), China.
The climate in the north eastern part of IMAR where Hulunbeier is located is extremely harsh and hostile during most of the year. The constant wind swept plains and low temperature mean that the window of time where it is possible and safe to install and commission the wind turbines is around five months starting from early May. Vestas’ good track record of delivering highly professional project execution services has been a key consideration for the customer in order to meet the deadline for completion of the project.
Jens Tommerup, President of Vestas China says, “We are very pleased with the fact that professional, efficient and safe project execution is at the core of our customer’s consideration. We think that it is important to continuously share best practices related to project execution with our customers, and we appreciate that it is recognised. Completing an entire project of 50 MW in a window of five months is not easy, but we definitely believe we have the right people for this task. We also believe the construction part of the business will receive more attention going forward, and this is also an area where our rich project experience and outstanding safety record set us apart.”
The contract includes delivery, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines, a VestasOnline® Business SCADA solution as well as a service and maintenance agreement. The turbines are scheduled to be delivered in the second quarter of 2011.
Vestas has worked with Datang on many projects since 2005 and signed more than 800 MW to date. Datang is the only Chinese customer that operates a Vestas fleet covering V52-850 kW, V60-850 kW, V80-1.8/2.0 MW and V90-1.8/2.0 MW turbines.
