p Metropolitan Municipality (Turkey) and the Renault-Nissan Alliance sign an agreement for preparing a zero emission partnership.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is aimed at establishing a partnership to promote and implement electric vehicles in Gaziantep. The partnership program will cover:
——the deployment in the Gaziantep municipality of a charging network for electric vehicles which will be launched in 2011,
——the rollout of corresponding services and developments
——the lease of 50 electric vehicles for the fleet of the municipality’s services of Gaziantep.
It’s the third MOU signed by the Alliance in Turkey: the first was signed with Istanbul Enerji, a subsidiary of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, and the second with Ankara Metropolitan Municipality.
The parties have decided to launch preliminary work with a view to encouraging the promotion of electric vehicles in order to reduce CO2 emissions and the effects of climate warming. A working group will be set up to
——multiplying the number of projects that could favor the use of electric vehicles in Gaziantep, especially those focused on charging networks,
——installing and developing a network of charging stations for electric vehicles,
——developing special projects for fleets, public spaces and cities,
——analyzing the regulations on installing and operating electric vehicle charging stations
The Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality also wishes to lease 50 electric vehicles in its fleet as soon as the Renault vehicles come to the Turkish market.

Renault has a very strong position in Turkey in terms of both production and sales. In november 2009, Renault announced it would be producing Fluence Z.E., one of its four electric vehicles, at the Bursa plant. Fluence Z.E. will be the first mass-produced electric vehicle in Turkey.
