Vestas has received an order from RES for delivery of 14 units of the V80-2.0 MW wind turbine. The Kelburn Wind Farm has a total capacity of 28 MW and the turbines will be installed in North Ayeshire, Scotland. Delivery of the turbines is scheduled to be completed mid-2011. The contract includes supply, installation and commissioning of the turbines, a VestasOnline® Business SCADA system and a 10-year service agreement.
“It is with great pleasure we announce this order today which represents a solid foundation for future contracts in this key market for RES,” says Klaus Steen Mortensen, President of Vestas Northern Europe. He continues: “RES is one of our key accounts and this order further strengthens our relationship.”
“Kelburn Wind Farm will contribute to Scotland’s ambitious new renewable energy target of 80 per cent by 2050,” says Gordon MacDougall, RES UK & Ireland Chief Operating Officer. “Scotlandis leading the UK in onshore wind and this project demonstrates its continuing success in attracting investment. There is great potential for further development across Scotland, which can bring clean, green renewable energy as well as employment and economic benefits to local communities. We look forward to welcoming Kelburn into RES’ growing portfolio of operational wind farms.”
When put into production, the wind power plant will save the environment from an annual emission of more than 50,000 tons of CO2 compared with average generated energy sources in the United Kingdom.
