According to Wechat Official Account @EnergyScope, Huawei is accelerating its expansion into the Brazilian energy storage market, preparing for the country's first battery tender scheduled for the second half of this year.
The company plans to launch its independently developed ultra-fast charging systems for electric vehicles and commercial vehicles in Brazil to address the rapidly growing demand for battery solutions in the local industrial and automotive sectors.
Roberto Valer, Chief Technology Officer of Huawei Digital Power (Brazil), stated that the company will introduce ultra-fast charging equipment for electric vehicles in Brazil and has already begun discussions with several companies. He cited cities like São Paulo as examples of regions accelerating the electrification of their fleets.
It is understood that 14 Chinese automakers, including BYD, Great Wall Motors, and AITO, have already adopted Huawei's related technologies.
Huawei is collaborating with Matrix Energia and HDT to develop charging systems. Valer likened energy storage batteries to a "Swiss Army Knife," emphasizing their multi-scenario application capabilities for storing solar, wind, and thermal energy.
Huawei's energy storage and charging solution supports a 5-minute fast charge for a 200-kilometer range, and a single system can be expanded to 12 charging units, enabling efficient parallel charging for multiple vehicles.
Valer pointed out that solar power generation needs to be used in conjunction with energy storage batteries to achieve all-weather power supply. Battery systems can store excess solar power generated during the day and release it during peak electricity consumption periods.
Dozens of customers have already expressed strong interest in this solution, mainly because the technology can significantly improve the operational efficiency of photovoltaic power plants.
Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy has launched the first round of battery energy storage tenders in 2024, and Minister Alexandre Silveira visited China this week to inspect the technological solutions of Asian companies. However, the country's battery industry still needs to improve its specific regulatory framework to facilitate project implementation.
Valer noted that the government needs to stimulate market demand through "continuous and stable tenders," as the modular nature of batteries allows them to be adapted to different application scenarios ranging from small to ultra-large scale.
