TrendForce has learned that KKR Group's Contour Global completed the construction of the Quillagua solar-plus-storage power station in Chile in April 2025. It is reported that this solar + storage project, known as Quillagua, includes 221MW of solar photovoltaic capacity and a 1.2GWh battery energy storage system, capable of providing 200MW of continuous peak shaving power for 6.2 hours.
Contour Global stated that this power station is the largest integrated solar-plus-storage project in Latin America. The company's CEO, Antonio Cammisecra, said that the project is crucial for the stability of the local power grid and can solve the imbalance between power supply and demand.
The commissioning of this new project marks a significant step for Chile in the field of renewable energy and energy storage, and it is expected to provide the country with a more stable and cleaner power supply. The concurrently acquired Víctor Jara power station (231MWp photovoltaic, 1.3GWh battery storage) is planned to be connected to the grid ahead of schedule in the second half of 2025. The combined annual power generation of the two projects is expected to reach 1300GWh.
From the perspective of market demand, Chile is a major global producer of copper and lithium resources and has recently experienced multiple large-scale power outages. Enhancing the resilience of the power system and developing renewable energy have become key priorities.
According to TrendForce's forecast, overall, the energy storage installations in the Americas in 2024/2025 will be 42GWh/52GWh, representing year-on-year growth of 43%/24%. The demand for installations in the Americas is still dominated by the United States, with Chile and Canada contributing significant incremental growth.
Large-Scale Energy Storage in the Americas Primarily Concentrated in the US, Chile, and Canada
In 2025, large-scale and commercial & industrial (C&I) energy storage installations in the Americas will continue to experience high growth, accounting for 89% of the total. Large-scale energy storage installations in the Americas are expected to reach 44GWh in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 23%, accounting for a high proportion of 85%.
Among these, large-scale energy storage installations are mainly concentrated in the United States, Chile, and Canada; C&I energy storage installations are approximately 2.1GWh, a year-on-year increase of 46%, accounting for about 4% and having a relatively small volume.

United States: New large-scale energy storage project installations will continue to experience high growth in 2025; this is mainly due to the large scale of project reserves. Under the expectation of interest rate cuts and increased battery tariffs, the construction progress of large-scale energy storage projects in 2025 is expected to accelerate.
Chile: Driven by multiple favorable factors such as capacity mechanisms, spot markets, and energy tenders, the demand for large-scale energy storage installations, mainly solar-plus-storage, is expected to continue its high-speed growth in 2025.
Canada: Primarily focused on large-scale and C&I energy storage, with interest rate cuts and the ITC subsidy (30%) being the core driving factors. In addition, government procurement orders for energy storage projects provide a guarantee for the long-term growth of energy storage installations in Canada.
