During the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), witnessed by the Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, China Energy Engineering Corporation’s (CEEC) international investment arm signed a Joint Execution Agreement with Kazakhstan's Samruk Energy for a 300MW solar PV project in Turkestan, marking significant progress for the initiative.
The project, included under the bilateral framework agreement between China and Kazakhstan, saw key leaders from Samruk Energy, Kazakhstan’s National Grid, and CEEC's International Group attend the signing ceremony.
Located in northern Turkestan, approximately 30 km from Shymkent, the Turkestan PV project spans 800 hectares with a designed capacity of 300MWac (360MWp). The project will incorporate 90MW/360MWh of energy storage and include necessary substations and transmission lines. Expected to generate 660 million kWh annually, construction is set for 15 months starting in late 2025.
In another development on October 23, CEEC’s Gezhouba Group and the Xinjiang Institute joint venture commenced construction on the 33.3MW Sheli solar project in southwest Kazakhstan, CEEC’s first renewable EPC project in Kazakhstan. Gezhouba Power Company leads project implementation, which includes a 35kV/220kV substation and local grid integration, with completion targeted in nine months.
Kazakhstan, a founding nation of the Belt and Road Initiative, plays a pivotal role in its high-quality development. Leveraging its expertise, CEEC aims to drive a sustainable energy transition along the Silk Road by delivering clean energy projects and promoting low-carbon global energy.
