On August 8th, U.S. photovoltaic manufacturer SEG Solar (SEG) held a grand opening ceremony for its new photovoltaic manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas. During the ceremony, the first 585W module rolled off the production line, making SEG one of the first manufacturers in the U.S. to achieve module production.
The facility represents a total investment of approximately $60 million and covers nearly 250,000 square feet. It is now fully operational, specializing in the production of the latest high-efficiency N-type solar modules, with an annual production capacity of 2GW. There are plans to expand the capacity to 5GW by 2030.
The production line is compatible with 182mm and 210mm N-type cells and is equipped with a fully automated intelligent manufacturing system, achieving seamless integration of automation, information technology, and intelligence.
Additionally, SEG plans to establish a global R&D center at the Houston photovoltaic manufacturing facility by the end of 2024. This center will offer comprehensive testing services, including LID testing, damp heat testing, PID testing, and LeTID testing under light exposure. These tests will ensure the reliability and performance of the modules under various environmental conditions, providing customers with higher quality and more competitive products.
SEG CEO Jim Wood stated in his keynote speech that SEG will continue to deepen its investments in the fields of wafers, cells, and modules in the future.
SEG Solar was founded in California in 2016 by co-founder Zhuguo Jun and CEO Jim Wood, with its headquarters now located in Houston, Texas. By the end of 2023, SEG's global cumulative shipments exceeded 5GW. It is expected that the company's module capacity will exceed 5.5GW by the end of 2024.
In 2025, SEG will establish Southeast Asia's largest photovoltaic industrial park in Indonesia, with a planned vertically integrated capacity of 5GW for wafers, 5GW for cells, and 5GW for modules. The first phase of the project will construct a 5GW cell capacity and a 3GW module capacity, expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2025. By establishing a vertically integrated industrial chain in Indonesia, SEG aims to secure the supply chain for the U.S. domestic market.
