Recently, Chinese solid-state battery company ProLogium Technology announced plans to control its expansion pace and slow down the construction progress of its solid-state battery gigafactory in France.
Previously, on May 13, 2023, ProLogium Technology announced that it would build a solid-state battery gigafactory in Dunkirk, France, with a total investment of 5.2 billion euros (approximately 41.247 billion yuan) and a planned capacity of 48 GWh. The initial capacity could be between 2 to 4 GWh.
Regarding this project, on July 11, Vincent Yang attended the 2024 World Materials Forum held in Paris and stated, "We don't want to expand too quickly. Our expansion speed will depend on the automakers." This indicates that ProLogium's current plan for its French solid-state battery gigafactory will be temporarily slowed down due to the slowdown in the development of the electric vehicle market.
However, ProLogium Technology is still striving to proceed with the construction as planned. The project has received funding from the French government and is still expected to start construction by the end of this year or early 2025 and begin production in 2027.
Founded in 2006 and headquartered in Taiwan, ProLogium Technology primarily provides lithium-ceramic solid-state battery solutions for electric vehicles and electronic products. In January this year, ProLogium's world's first gigawatt-level solid-state lithium-ceramic battery factory in Taoyuan was completed, with a planned capacity of 2 GWh, mainly producing high-silicon anode solid-state battery products for electric vehicles. ProLogium Technology also expects to deliver C-samples to automotive customers from its first gigafactory's pilot production line this year. Currently, ProLogium's automotive customers include Mercedes-Benz and VinFast.
Additionally, according to ProLogium's news on July 17, the company will launch its next-generation battery featuring high energy density, high-performance fast charging, and high safety, without the need for CTP (Cell To Pack) technology. Through a modular battery pack design, the cells can be recycled, alleviating consumer concerns about insufficient residual value of second-hand cars.
