Ford’s electric SUV Mustang Mach-E has now officially entered China. The company announced today that new vehicles will be assembled at the Chongqing plant, and Changan Ford expects to deliver the shipment to clients at the end of this year.
Ford’s joint venture in China, Changan Ford, announced that the first production line for Mustang Mach-E will begin operation today at the Chongqing plant.
Mustang Mach-E is the first and only available EV of Ford. Changan Ford started accepting preorders from Chinese customers since April this year, with the lowest price set at RMB 265K (approx. NT$1.15 million).
Ford also added a new model Mustang Mach-E SE just for the Chinese market, since the EV subsidization of the Chinese government is only applicable on vehicles below RMB 300K, and the lowest end of the initial Mustang Mach-E is the only model that conforms to the regulation. Hence, the new RWD SE that has a longer driving range is added at RMB 282K.
Mustang Mach-E is a highly competitive electric SUV in the current market that serves as the second best option to Tesla in terms of performance, driving range, and pricing. However, Ford has yet to extricate from the predicament of chip shortages, and remains under a constrained level of capacity, which is why the initiation of production lines in China at this point of time is a great development for the company as a whole.
Changan Ford is expected to establish 25 EV distribution locations in major metropolitan areas in China by the end of this year. Bearing differences from other auto manufacturers, Ford will be selling this EV model using the existing distribution system, where the 25 locations will be expanded to 100 within the next 5 years.
